Butane (C₄H₁₀) is a colorless, odorless, highly flammable alkane hydrocarbon gas, existing in two isomeric forms: n-butane and isobutane. It is a major component of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and easily liquefies under moderate pressure at room temperature. Physical & Chemical Properties

Butane (C₄H₁₀) is the fourth member of the alkane series with stable chemical properties under normal temperature and pressure. It is colorless, odorless, significantly heavier than air, and slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether.

Butane has excellent combustion performance with high calorific value (49.5 MJ/kg) and clean combustion products. It is chemically inert at room temperature and does not react with common strong acids, strong alkalis and oxidants. Under high temperature, high pressure or catalytic conditions, it can undergo oxidation, substitution, isomerization and pyrolysis reactions, which is an important raw material for organic chemical synthesis. It has a flammable explosion limit of 1.9%~8.5% in air, requiring standardized storage and transportation.
